R4

The Vektor R4 is a licensed copy of the Israeli Galil assault rifle. The R4 is South-Africa's standard issue assault rifle since 1980 when it replaced the older R1 (Fal) battle rifle. The rifle is produced by Lyttelton Ingenieurswerke.
The R4 is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO and uses a Galil/AK action (long stroke gas piston with a 2 lug rotating bolt). The Rifle features a folding polymer stock, left side selector, 35 or 50 round polymer/metal magazines, rear aperture sight and unlike the Israeli galil, it has no carry handle.
The Rifle was adopted in 1980 by the former South African Defence Forces (SADF) where it saw action in the Border-war against Angola. After Apartheid and the SADF were abolished in 1994, the new South African National Defence Forces (SANDF) keeps on using the R4 till this day
