Domestic guns of South-Africa

Indigenous guns of South-Africa ZA

(Note that R4 is based of the Israeli Galil, but you cant miss the R4 in this post)

South africa, the only Africa nation with major firearm production. Most known producers are Vektor (now Denel land systems, also back known as lyttelton ingenieurswerke), Milkor, Musgrave, Techno Arms and Trevelo Arms.

In 1961, The Republic of South-Africa was formed, the standard issue rifle at that time was the R1 (South-African FAL, Ligte Outomatiese Geweer), in the 70s and 80s, during the border war with Angola, South-Africa was dissapointed with the R1. The AK used by Angola performed on the otherhand very well, and since South-Africa was under arms embargo, South-Africa made a deal with Israel to produce Galil rifles, designated the R4.

South-Africa has lot of affinity with hunting, its the hunting hotspot of the world. Hunting in South-Africa has been going on for hunders of years starting with Dutch settlers. A modern hunting rifle producer in South-Africa is Musgrave, specialized in civillian sporting firearms.

In the late 80's and early 90's, tension in South-Africa was high during the time of apartheid. In the early 90's even at the point of civil war.  Self Defence was at it highest. If you can see at this post, alot of the guns on here are from that era. With crazy designs like a revolving shotgun, revolving grenade launcher, pistol grip magazine shotgun and funky bullpup shotguns. But also more traditional submachine guns and pistols. After the end of apartheid and the creation of the new South-Africa, crime started to rise, where now its number 1 at the ranking list of criminality. And no not small criminal activities like pickpocketing, but murder, robberies, home invasions etc. Alot of South-Africans relly on private security nowadays, from companies to private customers, from poor to rich. Alot of private security companies use Vektor made weapons, like the LM5 (Semi-auto R5) and SP-1 and Z-88.

Militarily wise, South-Africa made some next level weapons, like the Milkor MGL, now being used worldwide (M32 in U.S. military service), the NTW-20, a 20mm multi caliber anti-materiel rifle.

South-African civillians have alot of international firearms nowadays, and very gun store is full of them. And South-Africa still develops firearms to this day, with Truvelo being the main producer of innovative firearms like the raptor and CMS.
