Dutch rifle prototype

(Due to small arms parts being hard to translate from Dutch to English, so i can mistakes)
The M+G project was a 60's battle/assault rifle and machine gun project for a new rifle for the Dutch military to replace the M1 garand.

It was first chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO but also plans to chamber it in 5.56x45mm. The first rifle was based of the AR-10 with a carbine length barrel and used a AR-10 lower and modified upper receiver. Later prototype used their own aluminum receiver. The rifle has a 3 lug and used a long stroke piston, later on it was changed to a short stroke gas piston and it was able to be both magazine and belt fed. The charging handle is on the right side and is canted upwards. The M06 (belt fed lmg variant) was feeded via belts from the bottom instead of sides to keep the gun more slim and able for boxes to be mounted on the bottom.

The rifles were tested with different types of bolts and 3 different stocks
The first prototypes were named the M03 and M04, a wood mock up was made named the MG05. Later the M06 machine gun and G07 prototype rifled were made. In 1963, the rifles were presented to the "raad of bestuur" (no idea who or what was meant by this) and experiments continued on. The 3 lugs of the bolt were all sized different, the rifle had no stoppages or jams during feeding and extraction, but it did not reach the accuracy demand. Later the G08 and M09 were build and had 6 bolt lugs instead of 3. The rifle did reach the accuracy demand but the machine gun not.
Due to the unstable situation at Artillerie Inrichting, and the Stoner 63 being introduced in 5.56. The project stoped and the last Dutch designed military rifle was cancelled.

The M+G project prototypes first used a long stoke gas piston and later a short stroke gas piston. The barrel is detachable and looking at the pictures, it is held in with a simple cross pin to quickly detach it. The forgrip is foldable and is fixed to the barrel, so the forgrip is also the handle to remove the barrel (later on to be used on the AUG aswell). The rifles had alot of influence of the AR-10 so i assume the trigger group and magazine release placement are the same or similair which i used in my drawing. Furthermore, the bolt carrier is more square-ish and looks to be influenced by the FAL. There is alot of open space between the ejection port and internals of the gun, making it a very weak point of the design (but remember its a prototype only which can always be disstressed later). To be able to feed from belts, you attach a feeding mechanism on the bottom with a few cross pins.
